METARs on the other hand are pretty much spot on. My winds aloft are nowhere close to what SimBrief told me to expect to. Right now in the background I'm flying over northern Wisconsin and there were thunderstorms to my north, and when I check real time actual radar, it's crystal clear. However, I'm also using Rex Essentials for my weather, and it just seems there's a total disconnect between the two. I'm currently using SimBrief to put together my dispatches for my flights and reall am digging the system.

While ASCA and AS16 work great together, they are also fully compatible (either alone or together) with any other graphics add-on and weather add-on. The technology behind ASCA includes optional tight integration with Active Sky 2016 to enable features such as Real-Time Texture Dynamics, which allow you to manually change or have your textures automatically changed multiple times throughout a flight without needed to shut-down and restart your simulator! Also included with ASCA are brand new 3D cloud structures, a first for FSX/P3D!

Beyond the many new features, AS16 also extends and improves all aspects of weather simulation and depiction, from data parsing, to synthesis, interpolation, depiction, performance, and everything in-between, your entire weather experience will be more realistic than ever before.Ī FREE fully-functional 7 day trial of AS16 is available to all users.ĪSCA is a new kind of graphics add-on for Flight Simulator X (Boxed or SE) and Prepar3D that incorporates brand new technologies and content types to transform your skies and significantly increase realism, variation and dynamics. ĪS16 represents the culmination of 16 years of weather simulation engine development! New In-Cloud Motion Effects, Weather Scenarios System, Airborne Weather Radar, P3D v3 Visibility Smoothing and Volumetric Fog Integration, Navigraph Data Integration, Re-designed Map-based Custom Weather Editing System, Universal Web Companion App, an Improved Mapping System and a High-Latitude Cloud Squeeze Fix are just a few of the new features to debut in this brand new version of Active Sky.
#ACTIVE SKY NEXT WAITING FOR SIMULATOR PREPAR3D UPDATE#
HF3 is a recommended update for all AS16 and/or ASCA users and is available for download now from. For ASCA, among many changes in this update, significant Sky Color texture improvements have been made for darker nights and more natural colors by default. This hotfix brings continued fixes, improvements and enhancements based on user feedback. More of the very weird cockpit vapour effect. I'm not flying through clouds, but start getting a weird cloud vapour effect on the cockpit windshield The cloud edges look fuzzy with an unrealistic airbrush effect. Here the clouds look dull and unrealistic, very washed out There are all kinds of strange looking clouds, weird cloud texture effects on the cockpit windscreen when I'm nowhere near clouds, and clouds dipping into the ocean too, below are a few screenshots.Īpparently the more expensive P3D version that I bought is supposed to offer P3D visibility smoothing and volumetric fog integration, which sounds great in writing, but I'm unable to see where these two products are delivering this.ĪS16 with ASCA has to be the worst add-on combo I ever bought, if you're a P3D user and haven't already wasted your money on this, then do yourself a favour and save your money, I cannot recommend this at all! Well after using AS16 and ASCA for a few weeks now I can say that I'm completely underwhelmed, I've never been so disappointed with a brand-new weather engine and cloud texture add-on, I cannot recommend AS16 and ASCA at all.

#ACTIVE SKY NEXT WAITING FOR SIMULATOR PREPAR3D SOFTWARE#
I was a bit skeptical when I first saw AS16 and ASCA screenshots and read how their new software would completely transform anything weather related in the sim, but trusted HiFi to deliver another awesome product for P3D users. I've been a fan and loyal supporter of HiFi's products for a long time, and thought that AS16 coupled with ASCA would give me unmatched immersion and new found realism. I bought AS16 and ASCA thinking the combo would completely change the quality and realism of clouds and weather in P3Dv3.
